Omschrijving
This is a fascinating 19th century portrait of an older lady which would make a great talking piece. It is 'Scottish School' oil on canvas and is unsigned.
It is in a large frame painted gold and makes a statement in any room.
Size is approx 75cm x 60cm for the painting itself. Including the frame it is approx 90cm x 75cm in the frame
There is a label on the back which I assume is detailing who the picture is of.
-------------------------
Christine Stephens [possibly - difficult to read]
Married 28th October 1760
William [unreadable]
Baptized 11 July 1742
Died 25th Oct 1824
-------------------------
That would date the picture as somewhere before 1824 or perhaps just after.
The picture and frame obviously show signs of their age, but this only adds to the charm and character of this item.
This would particularly suit an older property and allow you to fabricate a tale of it being a portrait of the original owner! We used to hang this in our old Victorian sitting room and reel people in with elaborate stories of who she was. It was a real talking point.
